Let’s go into details…

 

1. Templating

Booking templating is a breakdown of what happens in terms of time and events in a flight booking. For example an approximate 2 hour booking (Template 1) can be broken down to student/customer arrival, instructor pre and post briefings, aircraft dispatch in and out and hobbs hours. Your organization can create any number of templates reflecting typical booking durations ie. 1, 2 and 3 hours bookings or by detailing the flight training event ie. Lesson #15 or Sightseeing for example. In this example Template 1 represents approximately a 2 hour booking; we see student 0.1 hour for arrival, 0.2 hour for instructor pre-briefing, 0.2 hour aircraft dispatch (aircraft keys out), hobbs for the event is typically 1.3 hour, 0.1 hour for instructor flight post-briefing. Timing of events can be customized by the minute or decimal hour (default).

 

2. Flight Staggering

Staggering training flights means more flight time and more flight time means increasing revenue. Staggering your flight training schedule can also help spread the workload of your dispatch/customer service staff when processing flight arrivals.

With SkedMax questions for operators becomes:

3. Intelligent Gapping

Because your customers are not presented with a schedule grid when making SkedMax Online booking request SkedMax takes control of gap creations, staggering of bookings and aircraft pooling. To demonstrate this feature we will assume an organization has created 3 basic templates; an approximate 1 hour booking, 1.5  hour and a 2 hour booking, templates reflects the duration of the flight activity, for example Lesson #15, Sightseeing Flight or Recreational Flight. We will also assume that historically 25% of all flights are Template A, 65% are Template B and 10% are Template C. The goal is to ensure that if gaps are created in the schedule they are created in a way to allow one or multiple bookings (templates) to fill them in an efficient manner as to maximize aircraft utilization. The SkedMax scheduling system calculates the probability of bookings to occur in the future based on statistics it gathers from the past and what is trending in the current schedule.

 

 

The above example shows the process of calculating best scenarios for booking requests 2, 3, 4 and 6. Booking 1 is an existing booking on the schedule, Booking Request 2 is made at a later time (as with Booking Request 3 to 6 are sequences one after the other) and is converted as a Template C based on the Activity/Duration (see student online booking request page) selection. In this example Template C is an approximate 2 hour booking. The student/customer requested a start time of 11:00, the system has returned options of 10:45 and 11:15. The 10:45 booking is optimal as the schedule will allow two bookings of Template (Tmpl) A or 1 booking of Tmpl C between the requested booking and Booking (B) 1 . Another option given to the student is 11:15, if selected this option will allow one booking of Tmpl A to fit in. The process is the same for Booking Request 3. Booking 4 is an example of flight staggering. Booking 6 is an example of Template C is no longer being a probable booking as three Template C already exist on the schedule, as assumed above 10% of all bookings are of Template C.

To produce the best schedule possible SkedMax uses a number of mathematical algorithms such as Linear Regression, Cauchy Stress, Linear Analysis and our own in-house functions.

 

4. Aircraft Pooling

Aircraft pooling gives an operation maximum flexibility to ensure aircraft availability at dispatch time and also meeting booking requests on specific dates and times. Aircraft pooling are normally categorized by aircraft type. Students and customers online book the aircraft by type and not by tail number unless specifically requested by the customer.

 

5. Student & Customer Incentives

To help you achieve an optimal aircraft schedule, SkedMax flight training scheduling system allows your organisation to promote discounts using a Bonus Point system. Bonus Points promotions can be disseminated via the student/customer online booking portal or by email and text (SMS) messages (see 7 below). Gathered bonus points can be redeemed on future flights or your pilot shop (if available). Bonus Points promotions can be issued for the following reasons:

  • last minute cancellations specials
  • ad-hoc discounts
  • weather changes (sub-optimal or suddenly nice)
  • discounts on non-peak business hours during the day (ie. before 08:00 and after 18:00 for example), the purpose of this program is to give incentives to your students to fly during non-peak hours of the day
  • gap fills discounts (see 3 above)

6. Email/SMS Notifications

With SkedMax flight training scheduling software you can easily issue promotions or bonus points to your students and customers via emails and text messaging. Are all of your aircraft on the ground when the weather suddenly turns nice? Send out instant messages and emails to your customers.  In addition, SkedMax also reads the next 48 hour aviation weather forecasts of your local airport from the NOAA data portal, with this information you can issue notifications to customers of last minute weather changes and specials.
